Photo Diary: Brittany, France

In August, myself and my boyfriend, Lawrence took off and drove down south to catch the Eurotunnel over to France. We had the whole trip planned out for months and felt like this trip was greatly anticipated and defiantly needed. We went to numerous towns and cities around France and loved soaking up the culture and the sun!

The Eurotunnel was nothing like I expected. With long delays expected due to extra security checks, it was surprising how quickly we got through customs and loaded on to the train. The train was HUGE. I always thought you parked your car up and left your vehcile and sat in a carriage like a normal train. But it was nothing like that, you drive on, stay in your car, and drive off. I only just nodded off when we arrived in France, it took a whole 30 minutes! Crazy! It has been the easiest way of traveling abroad, but the only thing I missed was the duty free shops as it is routine to spray yourself with expensive perfumes and try on sun glasses. There is a duty free at the tunnel terminal, but we just went straight on to the train.

We arrived in Calais in which we drove to Rouen, a small town in Normandy. We had a walk around, a coffee and shared a hanging kebab and the weather was scorching! The architecture around Rouen was beautiful. The detail in the buildings and the time it must have taken to complete amazed me.

From Rouen, we then drove along to our campsite, which was just outside St. Malo, which was a beautiful costal town. The old town is built within high walls, like a fort. We spent a morning here, where we had the best sweet crêpes, ever! St. Malo was my personal favourite place out of our whole trip that we visited. I loved the town, the coast, the houses, everything! If you were considering visiting Brittany, make sure St. Malo is on your list as it offers scenery and culture like no other town I visited.

We also met the world's cutest dog. He looked like he was such a softy despite the spike collar. If I had this dog I would call him Bruce. (Please can I have a Bruce dog one day?)

Whilst we were in Brittany, we met up with some of our old friends. We explored the town of Plomeur and went for dinner at a little local place recommended by Pierre. I was a bit wary of the type of food he explained it was, as I am a bit of a fussy eater. It was a little Crêperie called Men Lann Du. It was full of traditional garments, old photographs with little benches to sit on. The plates, cups and even the napkins were all traditional and beautiful. I am so glad we ate here, as it is something Lawrence and I wouldn't find/try on our own.  We shared a bottle of cider, which was really nice and sweet, I learnt more about the fashion, the history and the culture and I would really recommend visiting Men Lann Du, it is popular with both locals and tourists and is reasonably priced too. And being a fussy eater, I even enjoyed the food too!

Next on the agenda, we passed through Nantes on our way to Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, in which you have to drive over a huge bridge to get to the town. We didn't have a long stay at this campsite, so by the time we had drove there and had our set up camp, we were tired to have a drive back out again. So we got on our trip advisor app and went for a walk to see if there was any cafes near by. We stumbled on a hotel and restaurant, we went in by liking the look of the menu and did not realise how posh it was! We were in our shorts and flip flops and were angry as we had lots of more formal clothes that we were desperate to wear for a nice meal, but this was unplanned but still really enjoyed every bit of it.

As you can probably tell, Lawrence and I like to eat, and this is always our main priority when we travel. Food, food and more food! What a better way to explore?

So this is the first leg of our France trip, no car sickness, no accidents, so far so good.
